Hello KoolSource community! =)

Many, many players have been experiencing issues with minecraft "black screening" or just closing entirely/disappearing. A temporary fix has been to lower the view distance (F), however, there is a way for those affected to once again to experience minecraft in its full view distance glory!

Instructions

In the same folder that your "Minecraft.exe" is located (not the .jar, the exe you use/open to play the game), make a new text file, then open it and add this line:-
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xms512M -Xmx768M -jar "C:\Program Files (x86)\Minecraft\Minecraft.exe"
Save the file as PlayMinecraft.bat (Note the extension! Save it as .bat, not .txt)
Use PlayMinecraft.bat to play minecraft instead of the exe =D
For those interested, this allocates java less memory than the default, as the issue seems to be with Java's heap size combined with OpenGL being silly - this black screen issue appears to only affect nVidia cards since a Minecraft update in December)

Alternatively, (if you are using Windows 7 64-bit) install the 64-bit version of java like so:-
  • Start menu -> type "internet explorer" and open the 64-bit version
  • Go to "java.com"
  • Download - It will detect that you have 64-bit compatability and download the appropriate file
  • Run the file to install 64-bit Java
  • Play Minecraft on far render/view distance =D!
